On Sunday (June 11th) local time, Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khateeb stated at the 10th Entrepreneurship Conference of the China Arab Cooperation Forum that Saudi Arabia will invest over 800 billion US dollars in the next decade to develop the tourism industry.

The 10th Entrepreneurship Conference and 8th Investment Seminar of the China Arab Cooperation Forum were held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from June 11th to 12th, with over 3000 corporate executives and government officials participating.

Ahmed stated at the meeting that currently, the tourism industry in Saudi Arabia accounts for 3% of the labor market and 4.45% of GDP growth. Saudi Arabia's tourism industry is one of the core components of Saudi Arabia's 2030 vision, with the aim of increasing its contribution to Saudi Arabia's GDP to 10% by 2030.

He explained that the Middle East region is the fastest recovering region from the COVID-19 epidemic in the world, which will promote the growth of global travel and tourism.

Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO of the Saudi Tourism Authority, also stated at a symposium on "Diversification of Tourism and Entertainment" that digitalization is the cornerstone of Saudi Arabia's tourism industry, and Saudi Arabia's electronic visa is the best digital platform.

He also revealed that on the first day of this meeting, Saudi Arabia signed 26 agreements with China Online Travel Agency. He said, "Throughout the (tourism) value chain, we prioritize digitization."

New progress in the $63.2 billion project

Gerard J. Inzerillo, CEO of Diriyah Gate Development Bureau, also attended yesterday's meeting and delivered a speech, stating that so far, it has established cooperative relationships with over 43 Chinese companies.

Diriyah Gate is an important adobe city in the 19th century and the birthplace of the Saudi dynasty. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to previous reports, Saudi Arabia plans to invest $63.2 billion to develop this historic site into the world's greatest tourist attraction, as well as Saudi Arabia's cultural heritage and tourism center.

In addition to the At Turaif site and a series of museums, palaces, and mosques that have already opened by the end of 2022, Diriyah will launch new projects annually before 2030, aiming to become a world-class cultural center.

It is reported that about 38 new well-known brand hotels and resorts, 6 museums, 26 cultural attractions, over 400 luxury stores, and over 100 markets will open in Diriyah.

Previously, Inzerillo stated that by 2030, Diriyah will bring 27 million tourists to Saudi Arabia to support the goal of attracting 100 million tourists in Saudi Arabia's 2030 vision.
